Why proofreading is so important
There may be some who think that proofreading and editing is not important. That a document filled with spelling and grammatical errors can still convey the general information intended.
Well, we think otherwise, and trust us, the impression created by error-filled documents, publications and websites is unprofessional, shoddy, amateurish. These are not words that you want associated with your business, school, NGO or organisation. As far as possible – every communication that you send out should be should be word-perfect. That’s why proofreading is so important. If you write text, you are often ‘blinded’ by what you want to say, and you read right over errors. A bit like this :
A professional proofreader is able to read the text with more attention to the spelling, grammar and accuracy of what you want to communicate. In fact, a proofreader will check the structure, style and tone of your text and will edit it to give it the reader better understanding and a more pleasant reading experience. This is especially true of documents that are written by multiple writers, and where sections can have differing writing styles. A proofreader brings FRESH EYES to such texts, and can align styles and edit for any any inconsistences.
Many writers who have a good grasp of grammar and vocabulary feel that they are able to proofread their own work. And they can – but it is so easy to overlook errors as we read what we think is there, and not what is actually on the page. When you’ve spend hours on a document, and you know what you want to say, you kind of ‘see’ what you think you are saying. You are too familiar with your work, and it makes it easy to miss mistakes.
A text that is riddled with spelling errors, grammatical mistakes and inconsistencies loses the writer credibility. Readers tend to focus on the errors rather than the message. Making sure that your text is polished and error-free shows that you care about your work, the topic you are writing about and that your message is the focus of your text.
At Fine Design Publications, Faye will proofread your texts to make sure that they are polished, error-free and articulate. She will bring her ‘fresh eyes’ to your words to make sure that your publication has a professional quality.
